General Information:

All classes will take place in the Aerobics room at the UMass Boston Beacon Fitness Center, McCormack, First Floor, Room 710. Classes are subject to change. For more information, contact the Beacon Fitness Center at 617-287-6786. The Beacon Fitness Center and all classes and services are offered through the UMass Boston Athletic Department. Membership to the Beacon Fitness Center is free for students of UMass Boston. All classes are offered free of charge to all members of the Beacon Fitness Center.

Other Considerations:

Rules and eligibility for participation in group exercise at the UMass Boston Beacon Fitness Center All members of the Beacon Fitness Center may take part in any group exercise class offered at no additional cost. It is only necessary to sign up for a class if specified by instructor. ***In consideration for all involved, if you wish to join a class, please make every effort to come at the beginning of the scheduled class time. Please make sure to bring water to all classes in order to stay properly hydrated!!!!!

Class variations:

 Tai Chi- a sytem of physical exercise used to improve and maintain health, tai chi can be helpful in achieving a state of physical and mental relaxation while also strengthing the cardiovascular and immune systems.  (Tai chi calsses will be Nov 24th, Dec 1, Dec 8, Dec 15, Dec 22 and Dec 29.)

Yoga -A mixed-level yoga class, open to both beginners and more experienced students. Uses physical postures, breathing techniques, and deep relaxation to cultivate the many benefits yoga - including strength, flexibility, calm, and overall well-being. "Beginning January 1, 2010 all classess are free to all members.  However Faculty and Staff who are not members of the Beacon Fitness Center must pay a guest fee of $10 per visit".)

Total body conditioning - this class focuses on an entire body circuit using interval, strength and cardio style exercises to tone the whole body. 

RAD Training- is a 12 hour basic defense course involving classroom/book, practical, optional simulation training.  The first class TBA.

Latin Rhythms- get your heart pumping and move your body to Latin rhythms as you dance free style, salsa, merengue, cha cha and rumba.  No partner necessary.

Capoeria Conditioning-By using a form of Brazilian Maritial Arts this class combines dance with body weight movements for a total body workout. 

Swing Lessons-  come kick up your heels as you dance swing from underarm turns, to cuddles to kicks to flicks and swivels.  All are welcome no partner necessary. 

Zumba- an invigorating workout to upbeat music resulting in a great total body workout session.
