Barry founded the men's ice hockey program at Boston State in 1962 and was the school's only head coach for the program, compiling a 210-247-5 record in 20 seasons. The legendary mentor also began the Codfish Bowl, the second oldest college hockey invitational in the nation, and coached Boston State to six tournament titles. His finest season as a coach was the 1965-66 campaign that saw the Warriors finish with a perfect 20-0 record. After his coaching career, Barry became the UMass Boston Ice Rink manager and Development Coordinator from 1982-1985. Barry is also an accomplished golfer and started the golf program at Boston State. He also founded the UMass Boston Golf Classic, which will be held for the 25th consecutive year in 2011 at Granite Links Golf Course in Quincy.
