UMass Boston has had its share of multiple time All-Americans,but Carol Thomas is the only athlete in school history to have beenhonored as an All-American in two different sports. The formerguard is well decorated on the hardwood, having been named atwo-time All-American as well as an All-New England and All-ECACperformer. She will go down as one of the best all-around guards inschool annals after averaging 15.5 points, 4.4 assists, 6.0rebounds and 3.6 steals per outing during her career. Thomas becamethe first 1,000-point scorer in school history when she netted 16points in her final contest to give her 1,010 in just threeseasons, which is currently the sixth-highest total in programhistory. She holds the Beacons' record for steals in a season (92),season scoring average (19.3 ppg.), made field goals in a game(14), field goals attempted in a game (30) and field goalsattempted in a season (494). The Dorchester native proved to be oneof the best all-time playmakers at the school, ranking second incareer, season and single-game assists with 284, 119 and 11,respectively. She became the first UMB women's player to eclipse400 points in a season when she netted 426 as a junior, a totalthat still ranks as the fourth-highest in school history. Followingher hoops career, Thomas joined the 1986 outdoor track and fieldteam and finished third in the triple jump at the ECAC outdoor meetto earn All-ECAC status and help the squad to the ECAC crown. Shebettered herself by finishing second in the triple jump at the 1987NCAA indoor championships to earn herself All-American honors,en-route to helping UMass Boston win its third straight NCAA indoortitle. Thomas was also named All-New England after finishing thirdin the triple jump at the New England indoor championships and thenfifth in the New England outdoor competition. She earned four firstplace finishes, including the triple jump title at the 1987 ECACindoor championship as a part of another ECAC team championship forthe Beacons. Thomas still holds the UMass Boston outdoor long jumprecord as well.
