Lacrosse Bows Out Of NCAA Tournament At Stockton

The 2022 season came to a close in the first round of the NCAA Tournament following a 26-11 loss

GALLOWAY, N.J. – Beacons lacrosse saw their historic 2022 season come to a close as they were handed a 26-11 loss by Stockton University in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament Wednesday afternoon at G. Larry James Stadium.

THE BASICS:
UMass Boston 11, Stockton University 26

UMass Boston (17-3)
Stockton (17-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
After being held without a goal in the Beacons' low-scoring Little East Championship game victory over Keene, leading goal scorer Gavin Admirand re-established his presence in the opening frame against Stockton, netting back-to-back goals to give UMB an early 2-1 lead. This pair of goals put Admirand in rarified air as just the fifth player in program history to score 200 career points.

An equalizing goal from the Ospreys was quickly matched by Charlie Chapman who gave the Beacons a 3-2 lead with 3:14 to play. Chapman's score continued his breakout postseason as he has posted eight goals in the last three games.

The Beacons' lead was quickly diminished as Stockton went on a run of nine unanswered goals. The Ospreys attacked the net with quick possessions and the UMB offense was held scoreless for over 15 minutes.

The Beacons refused to go quietly as they matched the Ospreys' offensive output in the fourth quarter with five goals. The efforts of the visitors were too little too late as the Beacons season came to a close with a 26-11 defeat.

Christian Meinhold and Trevor Koppy split time in goal, each saving seven shots while allowing 13 goals.

BY THE NUMBERS:
  • 11 goals is the most scored by the Beacons in a loss since the 2019 season
  • 26 goals is the most allowed by the Beacons since March 5, 2019
  • UMB scored two goals on two man-up opportunities as well as a man-down goal
  • The Beacons took 17 of 38 matchups at the faceoff X
  • This was UMass Boston's first ever meeting with Stockton in lacrosse
  • The Beacons are now 0-2 in NCAA tournament games all time
  • The 2022 edition of UMB lacrosse practically rewrote every team record this season, including wins, goals scored, assists, total points
