BOSTON, Mass.—Former UMass Boston pitcher Kara Willis (’12) and goalie Brycen Dowd (’13) have been hired as assistant coaches for the 2013-14 season.
After spending one year with the Beacons as a pitching coach, Willis taken the pitching coach position at the University of Rhode Island, a Division I school in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Dowd joins former UMass Boston assistant coach Connor Erickson at Wentworth, where the former Beacons keeper will serve as the team’s goalkeeper coach.
Willis helped the UMass Boston pitching staff finish fourth in the Little East in 2012 with a team earned run average of 3.44. The four-year pitcher finished her playing career as the school’s record-holder for innings pitched (389.0), complete games (52) and strikeouts (223), while leading the Beacons to back-to-back postseason appearances in 2011 and 2012.
A native of Burrillville, Rhode Island, Willis graduated from UMass Boston in 2012 with a degree in Criminal Justice, before earning her master’s in Coaching Education from Ohio University Online.
Dowd who finished his career amongst the top five keepers in UMass Boston history in wins (16), games played (38), goals against average (1.69) and career shutouts (8), couldn't stay away from the game, as he’ll look to help a Wentworth program that has finished below .500 in each of the past two seasons.
The Mansfield, Massachusetts native earned his bachelor’s degree from UMass Boston in Exercise and Health Science in May of 2013.
