NORTHAMPTON, MA - Junior Michael Murphy (Worcester, MA) finished fourth in the 800 meters this afternoon to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston men's and women's indoor track and field teams at the Tartan Invitational hosted by Smith College in Northampton, MA.
Murphy finished with a mark of 2:03.48 in the 800, while freshman Benajah Potter (Arlington, MA) placed 12th in the race with a time of 2:08.14. Senior Emile Pierre-Louis (Arcahaie, Haiti) led the Beacons' sprinters with a fifth-place showing in the 200 meters, clocking in at 23.74 and placed seventh in the 55 meters with a time of 6.81. Freshman Toren Caesar (Roslindale, MA) crossed the line with a time of 52.67 in the 400 meters to place 11th and sophomore Craig Myers (Weymouth, MA) and senior Ryan Norton (Walpole, MA) paced UMass Boston in the distance events. Myers placed 18th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:01.80 and Norton was 23rd in the mile with a mark of 5:18.32. Junior David York (Andover, MA) led the field events for UMB with an eighth-place finish in the shot put with a heave of 11.72. The Beacons' 4x400 relay team turned in a seventh-place finish with a time of 3:34.12 as well.
Senior sprinter Glenny Casado (Methuen, MA) led the women's team with a fifth-place showing in the 55 meters with a time of 7.87 and also clocked a 29.47 in the 200 meters to place 17th. Senior Jennifer Wong (Fremont, CA) turned in a time of 10.01 in the 55-meter hurdles to place eighth and junior Joy Risko (Bristol, RI) paced the Beacons in the middle distance with a time of 1:51.68 to place 13th in the 600 meters. UMass Boston's 4X200 relay team also placed seventh with a mark of 2:04.58.
The Beacons will be in action again on Saturday, February 14 at New England Alliance/Little East Conference Championships in Westfield, MA, hosted by Westfield State College at 10:00 a.m.
