CAESAR LEADS INDOOR TRACK & FIELD AT CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

GORHAM, ME - Freshman Toren Caesar (Roslindale, MA) won the 800-meter championship to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston men's and women's indoor track and field teams at the New England Alliance/Little East Conference Championship in Gorham, ME today, hosted by University of Southern Maine.
The University of Southern Maine men's squad was the overall alliance champion with 180 points and LEC title-holder with 244 points.
Caesar finished first overall and among LEC runners with a mark of 1:59.70 to lead the Beacons to a sixth-place team finish with 22 points in the LEC standings and 10th among alliance squads with 17 points. Caesar also placed seventh in the Little East 400 meters, while placing 11th among alliance runners with a time of 51.92. Junior Michael Murphy (Worcester, MA) placed fifth and seventh in the 800 meters with a mark of 2:03.56 and freshman Benajah Potter (Arlington, MA) came in ninth and 12th with a time of 2:04.98 in the event.
Junior David York (Andover, MA) led UMass Boston in the field events with a fifth-place LEC showing in the shot put with a heave of 11.73 meters and 12th among alliance throwers.
Senior Emile Pierre-Louis (Arcahaie, Haiti) clocked a 23.69 in the 200 meters to finish fifth and 11th, while sophomore Patrick Day (Quincy, MA) placed 11th and 20th in the 3,000 meters with a mark of 9:41.36 and sophomore Craig Myers (Weymouth, MA) took 18th and 27th in the race with a time of 9:59.66. Senior Ryan Norton (Walpole, MA) crossed the finish with a time of 5:20.34 to place 16th and 27th in the one-mile. The Beacons' 4X400 relay team of Caesar, senior Carlos Cabral (Praia, Cape Verde), Pierre-Louis and Murphy turned in a time of 3:33.36 to place third and fourth among LEC and alliance teams, respectively.
UMass Boston's women totaled eight points in the New England Alliance meet for an 11th place, showing while scoring 13 points among Little East Conference teams to place sixth. Southern Maine was the top team finisher in the alliance meet with 125 points and the LEC competition with 163 points to capture both crowns.
Senior Glenny Casado (Methuen, MA) led the Beacons with a second-place showing among LEC runners and fifth in the overall alliance in the 55 meters with a time of 7.72 and finished seventh and 12th in the 200 meters with a mark of 28.95. Junior Joy Risko (Bristol, RI) posted a time of 1:49.62 in the 600 meters to finish fourth in the alliance and fifth in the LEC event. Senior Jennifer Wong (Fremont, CA) placed 15th in the 55-meter hurdle preliminaries with a time of 9.86. Casado, Risko, Wong and sophomore Tunisia Mambala (Gardena, CA) combined for a time of 1:58.71 in the 4x200 meter relay to place 11th in the alliance and sixth among LEC teams.
