KLOCZEWIAK WINS WEIGHT THROW TO PACE INDOOR TRACK & FIELD SQUADS AT REGGIE POYAU INVITATIONAL

BOSTON, MA - Freshman Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, MA) won the women's weight throw event Saturday afternoon to pace the University of Massachusetts Boston men's and women's indoor track & field teams at the Reggie Poyau Memorial Track Meet hosted by Brandeis University on the campus of Brandeis. Both squads finished fifth overall in the meet with the women recording 24 total points and the men registering 22. Amherst took home the women's title with 190 total points while Southern Maine captured the men's race with 170 total points.

Kloczewiak and sophomore Audra Hite (Dorchester, MA) had near identical times in the 55M race with Kloczewiak crossing the finish line in 11th place with a time of 8.28 seconds while Hite was right behind her in 12th place with a time of 8.30 seconds. Hit also had a strong showing in the 200M event, finishing seventh with a time of 30.59 seconds.

In the middle distance events, freshman Ariana Leao (New Bedford, MA) clocked in at 1:09.18 for an eighth place finish in the 400M and 2:06.48 in the 600M for a fourth place finish. Freshman Heather Lucas (Milton, MA) excelled in the distance events, finishing third in the 1Mile race with a time of 5:50.14 and eighth in the 3,000M race, clocking in at 11:15.68.

In the field events, Hite finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 1.40m and Kloczewiak won the weight throw with a toss of 8.33m.

For the men, Ivan Kostadinov (Newton, MA) was the fastest UMass Boston sprinter in the 55M dash, clocking in at 7.00 seconds for a seventh place finish while freshmen Kadeem McIntosh (Brockton, MA) and Lenford Coote (Sierre Leone) clocked in at 7.31 and 7.59 seconds, respectively, for 16th and 19th place finishes. In the 200M event, Kostadinov crossed the finish line in 24.86 seconds for an 11th place marker while senior Fuad Conteh (Sierre Leone) was just behind him in 12th place with a time of 25.02 seconds. Coote also competed in the event for UMass Boston, clocking in at 27.41 for a 19th place finish.

Sophomore Jake Kerin (Quincy, MA) and senior Benajah Potter (Arlington, MA) both competed in the 400M race as Kerin had a solid showing with a fifth place finish and a time of 52.88 seconds while Potter was not far behind, coming in ninth place with a time of 55.92 seconds. The Beacons had a trio of runners compete in the 600M race with sophomore Paul McEuen Jr. (Malden, MA) finishing seventh with a time of 1:36.98, sophomore Jeff Laurore (Malden, MA) finishing eighth at 1:37.07 and then junior Willie Francois (Roslindale, MA) rounding out the group with a ninth place finish at 1:47.17. Potter and Francois also raced in the 800M event as Potter clocked in at 2:10.70 for a ninth place finish and Francois crossing the finish line 2:53.49 for a 16th place finish.

In the distance races, freshman Xhulio Uruci (Newton, MA) placed fourth in the 1,000M event with a time of 2:39.60 while 12th in the 3,000M race, clocking in at 9:20.77. Junior Grant Shackelford (Menteca, CA) finished in 21st place in the 1Mile event, racing in a time of 5:19.22. The Beacons 4X800 relay team also had an impressive showing, coming in second place with a time of 8:49.61 seconds.

In the field, Kostadinov finished second on the long jump with a leap of 6.27m while Coote placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 9.50m.

Both squads will be idle until Friday, January 28 when they will compete in the Boston Reebok games hosted at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, MA at 4:00 p.m.
