WALTHAM, MA - The University of Massachusetts Boston men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed today at the Reggie Poyau Invitational hosted by Brandeis University in Waltham, MA.
The men's squad turned in a seventh-place showing with 22 points, while WPI took the team title with 158.50 points.
The Beacons saw a number of competitors register top-five finishes, including junior Michael Murphy (Worcester, MA), who placed fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:03.31, while freshman Toren Caesar (Roslindale, MA) finished fourth in the 400 meters with a mark of 52.27. Junior Anonio Francis (Manchester, Jamaica) recorded a fifth-place showing in the 200 meters with a time of 24.04, while senior Emile Pierre-Louis (Arcahaie, Haiti) placed 10th in the event with a time of 24.28. Pierre-Louis also registered a time of 6.86 in the 55 meters to place seventh in the preliminary heat. Junior David York (Andover, MA) registered a heave of 12.04 meters to take sixth place to lead the UMB men in the field events. Senior Ryan Norton (Walpole, MA) led UMass Boston in the distance events with a 14th-place finish in the 5000 meters with a time of 20:04.07 and sophomore Patrick Day (Quincy, MA) placed 23rd in the one-mile run with a mark of 5:01.70. The Beacons medley distance relay squad of Murphy, Francis, Caesar and Day posted a time of 11:05.78 to place fourth.
Senior Glenny Casado (Methuen, MA) led the UMass Boston women with a finish of 22nd in the 200 meters on a time of 29.72, while placing 10th in the 55 meters preliminaries with a mark of 8.03. She also recorded a leap of 9.59 meters in the triple jump to place 12th. Senior Jennifer Wong (Quincy, MA) finished 10th in the 55 meters preliminaries with a time of 9.74, while junior Joy Risko (Bristol, RI) placed 15th in the 600 meters with a time of 1:51.64.
The Beacons will be in action again on Friday, January 30 at the Boston Reebok Games hosted at the Reggie Lewis Center.
