BOSTON, MA - Sophomore Henry Morales (Chelsea, MA) placed in all five events he competed in on the LEC side of the Little East Conference/New England Alliance meet held on Saturday, February 12 in Gorham, ME on the campus of the University of Southern Maine. On the afternoon, both the Southern Maine men's and women's squads came away with the LEC and NE Alliance championship crowns as the men finished in first place with 182/151 points while the women collected 214/162 points for the title. The UMass Boston men's squad finished in fifth place in the LEC with 30 points, Morales contributing towards 17 of those points, and 10th in the NE Alliance with 16 points while the UMass Boston women's squad finished in sixth place on the LEC side with seven points and 10th in the NE Alliance with one point.

Morales finished second/second in the 200M with a new program-record time of 22.98 seconds, fourth/sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.46m, sixth/ninth in the high jump with a jump of 1.76m, sixth/ninth in the 400M with a time of 52.43 seconds and sixth/11th in the 55M dash crossing the line in 6.76 seconds.

Sophomore Hamza Abdul (Chelsea, MA) had a solid showing in the jumping events coming in fifth/11th in the triple-jump with a skip of 11.85m, finishing eighth/11th with a jump of 1.71m. Abdul placed seventh/12th in the long jump with a leap of 6.08m and also raced in the 600M event, clocking in at 1:30.62 for a ninth/15th place finish. Sophomore Jeff Laurore (Malden, MA) and junior Willie Francois (Roslindale, MA) were also in the 600M race as Laurore crossed the finish line in 1:32.96 for a 12th/18th place showing while Francois came in 13th/22nd place with a time of 1:46.82. Junior Kirby Cole (Shrewsbury, MA) placed fourth/10th in the pole vault, clearing 3.40m and also raced in the 55M event, clocking in at 7.32 seconds for a 14th/30th place finish. Freshman Lenford Coote (Brooklyn, NY) recorded a toss of 9.01m in the shot put, good for 11th/27th place while also racing in the 55M and 200M events, posting times of 7.54 and 26.67 seconds for 15th/31st and 21st/35th place showings. Freshman Kadeem McIntosh (Brockton, MA) rounded out the Beacons field competing in the 55M event, finishing 13th/29th with a time of 7.25 seconds. McIntosh also raced in the 200M race with a 19th/33rd place finish at 25.00 seconds flat. Not far behind him in the 200M were Laurore and junior Nephatly Jean-Felix (Dorchester, MA) as Laurore finished 20th/34th at 26.19 seconds and Jean-Felix crossed the line in 27.09 seconds in 22nd/36th place. Jean-Felix also competed in the 400M race, clocking in at 58.36 seconds for a 15th/25th place showing. Joining him in the 400M field was sophomore Jake Kerin (Quincy, MA) with a time of 52.93 seconds and a seventh/11th place finish. Kerin also finished ninth/11th in the 800M race with a time of 2:02.15. Senior Benajah Potter (Arlington, MA) and junior Oliver Dantiste (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) also competed in the 800M, coming in 11th/13th and 18th/26th place with times of 2:04.11 and 2:15.14, respectively. Freshman Xhulio Uruci (Newton, MA) paced UMass Boston in the middle distance events, finishing sixth/seventh in the 1,000M race with a time of 2:40.80 and coming in 10th/13th in the 1 Mile run with a time of 4:34.99. Junior Grant Shackelford (Manteca, CA) also raced in the 1 Mile event, clocking in at 5:24.63 for a 20th/28th place finish. Shackelford also ran in the 3,000M race, crossing the finish line in 10:47.32 for a 17th/26th place finish.

In the men's relay events, the Beacons 4X400M team comprised of Abdul, Morales, sophomore Ivan Kostadinov (Newton, MA) and Laurore finished in fourth/seventh place with a time of 3:42.28. In the 4X800M race, Potter, Kerin, Uruic and Dantiste finished in fifth/eighth place with a time of 8:51.39.

Sophomore Audra Hite (Dorchester, MA) placed 10th/19th in the women's high jump, clearing a height of 1.33m. Hite also finished sixth/17th in the 55M dash with a time of 8.17 seconds and eighth/18th in the 200M event clocking in at 29.19 seconds. Freshman Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, MA) also raced in the 55M event, crossing the finish line in 8.60 seconds in seventh/18th place while finishing the 200M race in 30.92 seconds in 11th/23rd place. She also competed in the 400M event, finishing eighth/15th with a time of 1:09.02. Freshman Ariana Leao (New Bedford, MA) was just in front Kloczewiak in the 400M race, coming in seventh/13th place with a time of 1:05.43 while also having a strong showing in the 800M event, coming in sixth/ninth place with a time of 2:31.75. Junior Rebecca Gabai (Brookline, MA) and senior Tunisia Mambala (Gardener, CA) also raced in the 800M event, finishing the race in 15th/24th and 16/25th place with times of 3:00.79 and 3:17.76, respectively. Freshman Heather Lucas (Milton, MA) represented the squad in the 3,000M event, coming in sixth/ninth place with a time of 11:22.50.

In the women's relay events, the UMass Boston 4X200M team made up of Leao, Hite, Kloczewiak and Lucas finished in fourth/eighth place with a time of 2:02.77.

Up next for UMass Boston, several members of the men's indoor track and field squad will race at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships held on February 18-19 on the Springfield College campus in Springfield, MA.
