BOSTON, MA - The University of Massachusetts Boston men's and women's indoor track and field team competed at the 2008 Husky Winter Carnival hosted by Northeastern University today at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, MA. The meet was open to Division I, II and III competitors as well as club teams.

Sophomore Michael Murphy (Worcester, MA) led the men with a 15th place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:06.02, while sophomore Patrick Day (Quincy, MA) clocked in with a time of 16:41.93 as the team's top finisher in the 5000 meters at 21st. Junior Melvin Morales (Springfield, MA) was the Beacons' top finisher in the 400 meters with a 41st place showing and a time of 57.08, while junior Andrew Jeune (Cambridge, MA) clocked in with a time of 7.00 to place 47th in the 55 meter preliminaries. Sophomore Craig Myers (Weymouth, MA) placed 53rd with a time of 4:58.05 in the one-mile run and junior Antonio Francis (Manchester, Jamaica) took 54th place in the 200 meters with a mark of 24.19. UMass Boston's 4X400 meter relay squad of senior Carlos Cabral (Praia, Cape Verde), freshman John Merriman (Washougal, WA), Murphy and Antonio finished with a time of 3:38 to take 23rd place. Junior David York (Andover, MA) led the Beacons in the field events with a heave of 11.18 meters to place 26th in the shot put.

Senior Jennifer Wong (Quincy, MA) clocked a 9.94 to finish 16th in the 55 meter hurdle preliminaries to lead the UMass Boston women and turned in a time of 8.29 to place 46th in the 55 meter run preliminaries. Junior Vivian Nassali (Kampala, Uganda) finished 25th to lead the team in the 400 meters with a mark of 1:14.34 and junior Joy Risko (Bristol, RI) was the top UMB competitor in the 800 meters with a time of 2:45.61 to finish 25th. Junior Tunisia Mambala (Gardena, CA) was the top finisher for the Beacons in the 200 meters with a time of 33.32 to place 85th, while the 4X400 relay team of Wong, Risko, Lavin and Nassali clocked in at 5:03.98 to finish 22nd.

UMass Boston will be in action again on Saturday, December 13 when it competes at the Harvard Invitational in Cambridge, MA.
