CAMBRIDGE, MA - The University of Massachusetts Boston men's and women's indoor track and field team competed at the 2008 Harvard University Open Track hosted by Harvard University today at the Gordon Track and Tennis Center in Cambridge, MA. The meet was open to Division I, II and III competitors as well as club teams.
Junior David York (Andover, MA) led the Beacons in the field events with a heave of 11.26 meters to place 14th in the open shot put event and Tom Schneider placed 36th with a leap of 5.07 meters in the long jump. Sophomore Michael Murphy (Worcester, MA) led the men in the track events with an 18th place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:04.32, while sophomore Patrick Day (Quincy, MA) finished with a time of 17:00.15 as the team's top finisher in the 5000 meters at 28th. Toren Ceasar crossed the finish with a time of 52.80 in the 400 meters to place 29th, while junior Antonio Frances (Manchester, Jamaica) placed 35th in the 200 meters with a mark of 23.95 and was 37th in the 60-meter preliminaries with a time of 7.48. Sophomore Craig Myers (Weymouth, MA) placed 39th with a time of 4:56.13 in the one-mile.
Senior Jennifer Wong (Quincy, MA) finished the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries in 11.00 to place 29th and ran a 30.16 in the 200 meters to finish 52nd. Senior Glenny Casado (Methuen, MA) clocked in at 8.79 in the 60-meter preliminary race and junior Vivian Nassali (Kampala, Uganda) registered a time of 1:14.92 in the 400 meters to place 35th. Junior Joy Risko (Bristol, RI) was the top UMB competitor in the 800 meters with a time of 2:40.65 to finish 39th.
UMass Boston will be in action again on Saturday, January 17 when it competes at the Brandeis Invitational in Waltham, MA.
