MEN AND WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD SQUADS COMPETE AT HARVARD OPEN

BOSTON, MA - Sophomore Jake Kerin (Quincy, MA) placed 13th in the 800M run to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston men's and women's indoor track and field teams Saturday afternoon at the Harvard Open hosted by Harvard University at the Gordon Track and Tennis Center in Cambridge, MA.
Kerin crossed the finish line in 2:02.90, coming in only five seconds off the first place time. Senior Benajah Potter (Arlington, MA), junior Oliver Dantiste (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) and junior Willie Francois (Roslindale, MA) rounded out the Beacons that competed in the 800M. Potter came in at 2:06.50 for a 31st place finish, Dantiste crossed the line in 2:15.84 in 53rd place while Francois rounded out the group with a 72nd place finish at 2:34.71.
The Beacons had two male teams compete in the 4x440M race, finishing in 14th and 21st place. Kerin and Potter teamed up with sophomores Henry Morales (Chelsea, MA) and Hamza Abdul (Chelsea, MA) to come in at 3:36.63 while the other team made up of freshman Xhulio Uruci (Newton, MA), sophomores Paul McEuen Jr. (Malden, MA) & Jeff Laurore (Malden, MA) and junior Nephatly Jean-Felix (Dorchester, MA) crossed the finish in a time of 3:50.24.
In the field events, Abdul paced UMass Boston with a triple jump distance of 11.98m, good for a 16th place showing while Morales and freshman Lenford Coote (Sierre Leone) both competed in the shot put, with Morales recording a throw of 9.30m for 38th place and Coote notching an 8.18m toss for 43rd place. Morales also ran in the 60M hurdle event, registering a time of 10.10 seconds for a 45th place finish. Uruci also had a 45th place showing in the 1 Mile race, improving his time from last week's race by six seconds with a 4:38.09 finish.
In the sprints, Laurore and Jean-Felix raced in the 400M event coming in 61st and 67th place, respectively, with times of 56.79 seconds and 58.24 seconds. The duo also ran in the 200M race, with Laurore finishing in 135th place with a 25.94 second run and Jean-Felix crossing the finish in 140th place with a time of 26.30 seconds. Rounding out the male field, junior Kirby Cole (Shrewsbury, MA) and Coote competed in the 60M dash, finishing in 77th and84th place with times of 8.05 second and 8.38 seconds.
In the women's field, freshman Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, MA) led the way with a 35th place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 7.04 meters. She was also the top Beacon finisher in the 400M race with a 57th place finish and a time of 1:06.95. Freshman Ariana Leao (New Bedford, MA) was not far behind her with a 59th place finish and a time of 1:07.61. In the 800M event, Leao crossed the finish line in 2:41.56 for a 41st place finish while juniors Rebecca Gabai (Brookline, MA) and Tunisia Mambala (Gardena, CA) also ran in the 800M, finishing in 57th and 61st with times of 3:03.95 and 3:07.81, respectively.
The Beacons will be in action again on Saturday, January 8 when they head to Hanover, NH to compete in Dartmouth Relays starting at 10:00 a.m.
