NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston men's indoor track performer Jake Kerin (Quincy, MA) has been named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week for the week of January 11-17, it was announced today by the conference.
The freshman competed in just one event for the Beacons and finished fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:04.17 at the Reggie Poyau Invitational hosted by Brandeis University on January 16 in Waltham, MA. Kerin's effort marked the third consecutive race that he has improved his time in the 800 meters.
A graduate of Boston College High School, Kerin has competed in the one-mile run and the 800 meters for UMass Boston this season. His time of 4:51.68 in the one-mile run is the best of any Beacons' runner this season and was good for a 10th-place showing among Division III runners in the Harvard University Open on December 14. His mark in the 800 meters at the Brandeis meet is also the top time this season for any UMass Boston competitor in the event.
The Beacons will be in action again on Friday, January 29 when they compete at the Reebok Boston Games, hosted at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, MA.
