Sarah Shapiro enters her third season as UMass Boston's Men's and Women's Cross Country Head Coach.

Shapiro's distinguished collegiate career was nothing short of impressive. She enjoyed three outstanding seasons competing for the Beacons and placed fourth or better in 15 races, including six first-place finishes. Shapiro was named to the Little East Conference All-Star team all three seasons and earned back-to-back fourth place showings in the sophomore and junior years at the LEC Championships. She was one of the best runners in the conference throughout her career, being tabbed the league's Runner of the Week five times during her tenure.

Shapiro finished her career competing in the fall of 2006, before joining the UMass Boston coaching staff as an Assistant Coach for the Beacons' outdoor track and field squad.

Last April, she completed the running of the historic Boston Marathon for the third time, finishing with a time 3:11.41 to finish 207th out of over 9,000 registered female competitors. Her time was an improvement of 20 minutes from the previous year.

The Weymouth, MA native graduated from UMass Boston in 2007 with a degree in exercise health and science.
