BUZZARDS BAY, MA - Freshman Heather Lucas led the University of Massachusetts Boston men's and women's cross country teams today with a fifth-place finish at the Sixth Annual Lt. Travis J. Fuller Invitational hosted by the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Buzzards Bay, MA.

Lucas was the top finisher for the Beacons' women, coming in at 19:44 in the five-kilometer run. Gretchen Holoubek of Merchant Marine Academy took the top spot on the women's side with a mark of 19:03 but it was the Emmanuel College women's team that finished first in the team competition with 40 total points. UMass Boston had only two women racing so was not eligible to place in the team competition.

Sophomore Tunisa Mambala (Los Angeles, CA) clocked a time of 25:52 to come in 79th place overall to round out the Beacon's runners in the field.

Junior Michael Spinnato (Westwood, MA) paced the UMass Boston men with a 15th-place finish. Spinnato clocked in at 27:52 to lead the Beacons' men's squad to a sixth-place showing with 180 points. Abdihakim Ibrahim dominated the field as the top overall finisher in the eight-kilometer run for Emmanuel College with a course-record time of 25:35 to help lead the Saints to the men's team victory with 31 points.

Senior Mitchell Haley (Dorchester, MA) registered a solid time of 29:51 to capture 37th place and not far behind him was junior Patrick Day (Quincy, MA) with a time of 31:17 in 46th place. Freshman Ming Wang (Beijing, China) finished his first collegiate race in 75th place at 35:37 and just behind him was sophomore Christopher Chapman (Brockton, MA) coming in 76th at 35:39. Rounding out the UMass Boston field was sophomore Henry Morales (Chelsea, MA) with a time of 38:35 and 80th place finish.

UMass Boston will run again on Saturday, September 18 when it travels to North Dartmouth, MA to compete in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational at 10:00 AM.
