WAREHAM, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston junior Patrick Day (Quincy, MA) placed eighth and freshman Jacqui Brown (Lowell, MA) placed ninth in her collegiate debut at the Fifth Annual Lt. Travis J. Fuller Invitational, hosted by Massachusetts Maritime Academy today in Wareham, MA.

The Beacons' women totaled 140 points on the day to finish fifth as a team, while Emmanuel College placed first with a team score of 62. Cat Viglienzoni of Emerson College crossed the finish with a mark of 20:13 as the women's top finisher in the five-kilometer race. The UMass Boston men also finished fifth on the afternoon with a score of 116, while Massachusetts Maritime took first place with 48 points on the eight-kilometer course. The top men's finisher was Rob Edsall from the United States Merchant Marine Academy with a mark of 28:27 to win the meet by three seconds.

Day's finish was 11 spots better than last year with a time of 29:31 for the Beacons. Freshman Igal Bubar (Newton, MA) turned in a time of 31:17 to place 21st, while junior Mitchell Haley (Dorchester, MA) finished just 26 seconds later at 31:43 in 26th place for UMB. Mike Spinato crossed the finish with a mark of 32:30 to take 30th place and sophomore Nyadenya Inyagna (Boston, MA) rounded out the scoring for the Beacons with a time of 33:25 to come in 37th.

Brown led the UMass Boston women with a time of 21:30. Senior Joy Risko (Bristol, RI) clocked in at 22:47 to eclipse her time from last year by 61 seconds and placed 21st overall, while sophomore Cherie Lavin (Falmouth, MA) finished 33rd for the Beacons with a mark of 23:58. Junior Celia Leclerc (Reville, France) posted a time of 25:30 to place 43rd in her first collegiate race and junior Michelle Gildea (Dorchester, MA) came in right behind her with a time of 25:31 to finish 44th to round out the scoring for UMass Boston.

The Beacons will run again on Saturday, September 19 in North Dartmouth, MA, when they compete in the UMass Dartmouth Shriners Invitational at 10:30 a.m.
