DAY LEADS UMASS BOSTON MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY AT 2008 TRAVIS FULLER INVITATIONAL

WAREHAM, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston sophomore Patrick Day (Quincy, MA) placed 19th at the 2008 Travis Fuller Invitational, hosted by Massachusetts Maritime Academy, with a time of 29:03 to lead the Beacons to a fifth-place team finish in the eight kilometer race today in Wareham, MA.

The Beacons totaled 137 points on the day. University of Massachusetts Dartmouth won the team event with 25 points behind top finisher, Kevin Gilmore, who broke the tape first with a time of 26:02.

Junior Mitchell Haley (Dorchester, MA) placed 22nd for UMass Boston with a mark of 29:29, while sophomore Craig Myers (Weymouth, MA) crossed the finish with a time of 30:35 to place 34th.

UMB's women accumulated 268 points to post a 10th-place team finish, led by junior Joy Risko (Bristol, RI), who posted a time of 23:48 to finish 52nd. Emerson College won the team event with 48 points. Cathryn Lariviere of Emmanuel College was the first-place finisher in the five kilometer trek with a time of 18:52.

Sophomore Carmalina Rowe (Paxton, MA) placed 62nd with a time of 25:39 for UMass Boston and sophomore Andrea Rodgers (New Fairfield, CT) clocked in at 30:24 to finish 83rd to round out the Beacons' top three finishers.

UMass Boston will run again on Saturday, September 20 in North Dartmouth, MA, when they compete in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational at 10:30 a.m.
