NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston sophomore Patrick Day (Quincy, MA) was the Beacons' top finisher at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Shriners Cross Country Invitational, placing 164th with a personal-record time of 28:32. The men's squad finished 35th in the five-mile race today in North Dartmouth, MA.
UMass Boston totaled 962 points, while Keene State College won the team event with a score of 85 points. Northeastern University's Teddy Vrountas was the meet's top finisher with a mark of 25:04.
Junior Mitch Haley (Dorchester, MA) came in 26 seconds behind Day at 28:58 to finish in 177th place with a personal-record time for the season, while sophomore Craig Myers (Weymouth, MA) also posted a personal-record for the season with a mark of 29:55 to finish 205th for the Beacons.
Junior Joy Risko (Bristol, RI) led the UMass Boston women in the sub-varsity race with a time of 23:55 in the five kilometer trek to place 129th as part of an 18th-place team finish. The Beacons totaled 509 points. MIT owned the top team-finish in the sub-varsity race with 35 points, while Paige Mills of Keene State College won the individual race with a time of 18:57.
Junior Vivian Nassali (Watertown, MA) registered a time of 26:40 to place 174th for UMass Boston in her school debut, while sophomore Carmalina Rowe (Paxton, MA) ran a time of 27:35 to cross the line in 185th place with classmate Michelle Gildea (Dorchester, MA) finishing just 14 seconds behind her in 186th place with a time of 27:49 in her first race of the season.
The Beacons will run again on Saturday, September 27 at Franklin Park in Dorchester, MA, when they compete in the USA Track and Field New England Codfish Bowl at 11:00 a.m.
