LINCOLN, RI - Freshman Robin Rader (Duxbury, MA) finished 25th for the women and junior Patrick Day (Quincy, MA) placed 28th for the men to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston cross country team at the Tri-State Cross Country Invitational hosted by Community College of Rhode Island today on a rain-soaked morning in Lincoln, RI.

Rader crossed the finish with a time of 23:12.57 for the Beacons, while Vicky Hewey of Worcester Polytechnic Institute finished first with a time of 20:33.72 in the five kilometer race to pace WPI to a score of 46 points to capture a first place team showing. UMass Boston finished seventh as a team with 179 points.

Freshman Jacqui Brown (Lowell, MA) clocked in at 23:56.14 for the Beacons to take 33rd place, while senior Joy Risko (Bristol, RI) turned in a time of 24:18.55 to finish 40th overall. Sophomore Cherie Lavin (Falmouth, MA) was right behind with a 43rd-place finish on a time of 25:01.20 and junior Celia LeClerc (Reville, France) rounded out the scoring with a time of 26:44.95 to place 53rd.

Day's time of 29:59.44 led the UMass Boston men, while Chris Burke finished with the top time of 27:08.05 for State University of New York Delhi, which won the team title with a score of 37. The Beacons placed sixth as a team with 151 points in the eight kilometer race.

Sophomore Nyadenya Inyagna (Boston, MA) finished 34th with a mark of 30:38.29 with freshman Devin Cannon (Mashpee, MA) less than a second behind him at 30:39.72 for 35th place. Junior Carlos Sanchez (Springfield, MA) placed 73rd with a time of 37:31.67 and junior Alex Hoang (Boston, MA) crossed the finish with a time of 40:31.08 to place 76th.

UMass Boston will run again on Friday, October 16 when it travels to historic Franklin Park in Dorchester to compete in the Emmanuel College Saints Invitational at 4:00 p.m.
