BRISTOL, RI - Sophomore Patrick Day Quincy, MA) finished 174th overall with a time of 30:07 in the eight-kilometer race to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston men's cross country team today at the 2008 ECAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships in Bristol, RI.
Day led the Beacons to a 40th place team finish with 1103 points.
Adam Smith of Saint Vincent College won the race with a time of 26:18, while Williams College captured the team title with a total of 64 points.
Sophomore John Merriman (Washougal, WA) was UMass Boston's second finisher with a time of 31:13 to finish 217th, while classmate Filipe Zamborlini (Minas Gerais, Brazil) clocked in at 31:33 for a 227th place showing. Senior Ryan Norton (Walpole, MA) posted a time of 31:53 to place 236th and junior Fabien Richard (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) rounded out the team scoring with a mark of 32:26 to come in 253rd.
Junior Joy Risko (Bristol, RI) was the top finisher in the six kilometer race for UMB's women, running a time of 30:06 to place 229th in her hometown.
Elly Teitswoth of Williams College broke the tape with a mark of 23:33 to finish first overall, while Williams captured the women's title as well with 23 points.
The Beacons' Vivian Nassali (Watertown, MA) finished with a mark of 31:40 to place 244th and sophomore Carmalina Rowe (Paxton, MA) clocked in at 31:52 for a 247th place showing. Sophomore Michelle Gildea (Dorchester, MA) crossed the finish at 33:36 to place 259th and freshman Cherie Lavin (Falmouth, MA) placed 266th with a time of 38:11 as the final UMB scorer.
