BOSTON, Mass. – Even through rain and a muddy course, the cross-country team managed to place 10th out of 16 teams (212 pts) at the 2011 Emmanuel College Saints Invitational, Friday afternoon. Leading the Beacons was Xhulio Uruci (Newton, MA) who crossed the finish line in 17th place with a final time of 28:56.
Winning the 7,955 meter race was Johnson and Wales (RI) who earned a combined time of 2:18:38.00 and a total of 35 points. The individual title went to Alex Gomes of Salem State University. Gomes finished the meet with a final time of 26:14, defeating his closest competitor by 17 hundredths of a second.
Crossing the finish line next for the Beacons was Jake Kerin (Quincy, MA), who posted a 27th place finish and a time of 29:27. After him it was Tad Delaney (Halifax, MA) in 49th place with his final time of 30:48. Recording a 72nd place finish was Grant Shackelford (Manteca, CA) with his time of 32:08. Hamza Abdul (Chelsea, MA) was right behind him in 79th place with his final mark of 32:29.
Ming Wang (Ying Kou, China) went on to finish the meet with a time of 33:33 (93rd), while Andrew Preda and Jeff Laurore (Malden, MA) closed out the meet in 102nd (34:04) and 108th (35:06) place respectively. Henry Morales (Chelsea, MA) and Norbert Simmons (Chelsea, MA) finished with the same time of 42:25 closing out Friday’s meet for UMass Boston.
Cross-country returns to action on October 29 when they take part in the Little East Conference/New England Alliance championship meet. This year’s championship will be held at UMass Dartmouth, with the meet scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
