BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Boston Department of Athletics has announced that former UMass Boston women’s ice hockey and softball standout Andrea Ciarletta ’07 will be inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of the 2012 induction class.
Perhaps one of the greatest dual sport athletes to ever compete at UMass Boston, Ciarletta will be one of 10 honorees enshrined this October in the university’s annual ceremony, which is also celebrating its 10th anniversary.
As a four-year member of the women’s hockey program, Ciarletta sits as the all-time leader in points with 167 and goals scored with 98. The program’s only USCHO.com Preseason All-American, Ciarletta currently holds the NCAA Division III record for most shorthanded goals in a game with two. An ECAC East Rookie of the Year honoree, Ciarletta holds numerous game and single-season records at UMass Boston, including the record for goals in a season as a freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior.
On the softball diamond her accomplishments were just as impressive, as she finished her career second all-time in games played with 119. She swatted 46 hits to hold the program’s all-time third-place record, and currently reigns as the all-time RBI leader with 76. Her 192 total bases reached is the most ever in UMass Boston softball history, while her 218 career assists ranks second all-time. She is also the only player in the program’s history to be named a four-time Little East All-Conference selection, having been named second team in 2004, 2006, and 2007, and first team in 2005.
