NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Beacons earned their first weekly conference honors of the season Monday, when junior Matt Consiglio (Southbury, Conn.) was recognized as the Player of the Week honors in the Little East Conference and sophomore Jamill Moquette (Boston, Mass.) was named the LEC Rookie of the Week.
Consiglio had a huge week, hitting .529 (9-for-17) and recorded nine RBIs to lead UMass Boston to a 5-1 week. The first baseman added a home run, three doubles and five runs scored to help UMass Boston get back over .500. Overall, he reached base 16 times in 24 trips to the plate, behind seven walks in six games.
In the team's weekend doubleheader sweep over conference foe Western Connecticut, Consiglio went a combined 5-for-9 (.560) and drove in five runs, while scoring five times, to help the Beacons to their first conference wins of the season. He reached base at least three times in all but one of the team's games and knotched multiple base hits in three of the team's final four games of the week.
Consiglio became the first Beacon to earn the award since Ryan Walsh earned the award April 25 of last year.
Moquette was just as impressive for the Beacons, as he hit .407 (11-for-27) for the week and knotched five RBIs in six games. He produced five extra-base hits for the weekend, including a double and a home run, while also stealing four bases for the Beacons.
In the team's sweep of Western Connecticut, Moquette went 4-for-9 with a double, home run, and two RBI to help UMass Boston to their first sweep over the Colonials since 2010. Moquette tallied multiple hits in five of the team's six games and recorded at least one hit in each of the team's contest.
