NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.—For the first time in his career, junior pitcher Lucas Ilges (Gloucester, R.I.) has been named the Little East Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning.
Ilges took home the hardware after handing #13 University of Southern Maine their first shutout in 63 games in a 4-0 Beacons win Tuesday afternoon in Gorham. The junior right-hander scattered three hits and one walk over nine innings in his first career shutout. He also added six strikeouts in the contest, to help UMB earn a season-split with the top squad in the Little East Conference.
Ilges started the contest by retiring the first 10 Huskies he faced and was nearly as effective over the final three frames, retiring nine of the 11 batters he faced.
He is the second Beacon to win the award this season, joining fellow junior Will Barrack (Lancaster, Va.) who won the award for his performance during the week of March 18-24.
For the season, Ilges sits second on the Beacons in wins with three and owns the third best ERA amongst starting pitchers with a 3.64 ERA in 42 innings of work.
