PAWTUCKET, R.I.—Two members of UMass Boston baseball suited up for one final game in 2018, as senior Chris Fowler (Barnstable, Mass.) and head coach Brendan Eygabroat represented the Beacons at the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-Star Game last Thursday.
Fowler and Eygabroat both were part of the College Division Team that was made up of the top players in New England from the Division II and Divison III levels. The College Division Team earned a 4-4 tie against the University Division Team-which was comprised of all Division I players.
Fowler earned the start at first base for the College Division Team and hit cleanup. He finished the day 0-2 with a walk and six putouts. In his first at-bat, Fowler crushed a first pitch fastball to the warning track at McCoy Stadium—the home of the Pawtucket Red Sox (AAA). He earned a full count walk in his second at-bat, before striking out in his final trip to the plate.
Eygabroat was honored before the game, as the Beacons were recognized as the top Division III program in New England this year by the NEIBA. He also served as an assistant coach for the College Division Team that has now earned back-to-back ties against their Division I opponents.
