Brendan Akashian,a 2008 graduate ofthe College of the Holy Cross (NCAA Division I) and team captain, enters his first season with the UMass Boston baseball program.

Following his junior and senior seasons, Akashian earned All-Patriot League honorsas acatcher and was selected as the recipient of the Hop Riopel award, given annually to the MVP of the Holy Cross baseball team.

After his graduation, Akashian went on to play three seasons of professional baseball, including spending the 2009 season with the South Atlantic League Champion Lakewood BlueClaws, the Class A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. He also played two seasons with the Southern Illinois Miners earning All-Star honors in 2010 where he led the Frontier League in on-base percentage.

A native of Lowell, Massachusetts, Akashian is employed as an Operations Specialist by Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. and currently resides in Boston.
