The 2013 season will mark the ninth year for head coach Brendan
Eygabroat. The all-time winningest coach in the
program’s history, Eygabroat has taken the UMass Boston
baseball program to new heights.
During his time with the Beacons, Eygabroat has guided UMass to eight consecutive conference tournament appearances, more than any other coach in history. He also led his squad to the first Little East Conference and NCAA Division III Regional crown in 2010.
A true teacher of the game, Eygabroat’s coaching philosophy has helped numerous players earn multiple All-American, All-Region, and All-Conference accolades. He has also helped the program reach a national ranking of 12th on the NCBWA/D3Baseball.com Top-25 Coaches Poll --the highest in program history-- which they achieved during their amazing run to the Division III College World Series in 2010.
The all-time leader in Little East Conference regular and postseason victories, Eygabroat has turned the Beacons program into a yearly contender in a conference some consider to be one of the best in all of Division III baseball.
Most recently Eygabroat helped the Beacons earn their highest regular season finish in the Little East Conference, earning the No. 2 seed heading into the conference tournament in 2011. It was also in that year that he coached the LEC and ECAC Player of the Year in Ryan Walsh. Walsh would go onto be named a First Team All-American as well as sign a professional contract.
The record setting and historic 2010 season saw Eygabroat lead
UMass Boston to their first-ever NCAA Division III College Baseball
World Series appearance in Appleton, WI after sweeping through the
Little East Conference and New England Regional tournaments. His
squad broke numerous records, shattering the single-season wins
mark with 32 victories. Two of his players were honored as D-III
All-Americans, five were recognized on the New England All-Region
squad as well as the Little East Conference Teams and he also
coached the Little East Conference Pitcher of the Year for the
third time in his career.
Behind Eygabroat, the 2010 Beacons set a school record for overall
wins and matched the program's highest victory total in Little East
Conference play with an 8-6 mark. UMass Boston won nine of its last
11 games, including four straight wins in the LEC Tournament and
four in a row in the NCAA New England Regional. UMB set school
records in games played (49), hits (580), runs scored (440), runs
batted in (373), total bases (857), home runs (49), doubles (118),
slugging percentage (.480), bases on balls (188), stolen bases
(127), times hit by pitch (67), innings pitched (427 2/3), shutouts
(4), batters struck out (333), saves (12), putouts (1283) and
fielding assists (481).
During Eygabroat's eight years his program has produced three
All-Americans, the league's Pitcher of the Year three times, nine
All-New England Region honorees and 19 players have been named to
the Little East Conference All-Star squad. His players have also
competed in prestigious summer leagues around New England such as
the legendary Cape Cod League and New England Collegiate Baseball
League. Since 2008, Eygabroat has had two of his former players
sign professional contracts to play in the CanAm Independent
League.
Prior to his arrival at UMass Boston Eygabroat spent four seasons
as an Assistant Coach at nearby Suffolk University where he worked
with the Rams' hitters and catchers. Eygabroat also saw time as an
assistant coach in the New England Collegiate Baseball League for
the Mill City All-Americans working with the outfielders and
hitters.
Before joining the college coaching ranks, Eygabroat enjoyed an
outstanding college playing career at Mary Washington College in
Virginia, where he helped the Eagles to a pair of NCAA Regional
tournament appearances in 2001 and 1998. The Rochester, New York,
native was named captain for the Mary Washington College for his
senior season and earned South Region Honorable Mention honors as a
catcher. Eygabroat also earned a spot on the Capital Athletic
Conference First Team. Eygabroat was also part of the Eagles CAC
championship as a freshman in 1998.
Eygabroat graduated from Mary Washington in 2001 with a
bachelor’s of science in business administration. Eygabroat
also earned a master’s degree in higher education
administration from Suffolk in 2003. He resides in Jamaica Plain
with his wife, Joanna and their new baby girl Ella.
