MILTON, Mass. - Curry College picked up a win against visiting UMass Boston, 4-3, in non-conference baseball action Wednesday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels improved to 16-20 overall, while the Beacons fell to 14-16.
UMass Boston put the first two runs on the board in the third and the fourth on solo home runs off the bats of Ryan Walsh (Newton, MA) and Matt Consiglio (Southbury, CT), respectively. In the sixth, Curry plated three runs to take the lead. The first run came on a Matt Rodriguez (Quincy, MA) bases-loaded walk, while the second and third runs both came on in on sacrifice flies to left field.
The Beacons tied the game in the seventh after Walsh hit an RBI ground-rule double to center. The Colonels reclaimed the lead in the eighth after Ben Blaisdell (Mansfield, MA) hit an RBI single to center to bring home Brad Hawn (Chino Hills, CA).
Kyle Moore (Lynn, MA) got the start for Curry, giving up two runs on five hits, while striking out two in four innings of work. Brian Pipines (Cresskill, NJ) picked up the win, giving up no runs and two hits in two innings of work. Dan Gambill (Lake Worth, FL) absorbed the loss for UMass Boston, giving up one run on two hits in the ninth.
The Colonels return to action on Thursday, traveling to Nichols College for a conference doubleheader with a 2:00 p.m. start. The Beacons visit M.I.T. Thursday at 4:00 p.m. for a non-conference matchup.
