QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC - Former University of Massachusetts Boston pitcher Nick Conway (Methuen, MA) made his professional debut on May 28 when he entered the eighth inning in relief for the Worcester Tornadoes.

The right-hander did not allow a baserunner vs. the Quebec Capitales and struck out his first batter as a professional in a 3-1 loss in Quebec City, Quebec.

Conway, who was a Volunteer Assistant Coach for UMB this past season, signed to pitch for the Tornadoes of the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball this past winter.

The 6'2", 205-pound Conway is the Beacons' all-time leader in innings pitched (245), strikeouts (234) and earned run average (3.49) and the only pitcher in school-history to be named the Little East Conference Pitcher of the Year in both 2006 and 2008. He ranks second in UMass Boston annals with 45 career appearances and 14 victories and made 33 starts, while completing nine of them. A graduate of Methuen High School, he established UMB single-season standards for strikeouts with 82 and innings pitched with 86 in 2006 as just a sophomore, en-route to becoming the first pitcher in school history to be named the LEC Pitcher of the Year, while leading the team to its first-ever ECAC New England playoff berth. Conway held opponents to just a .235 (216-918) batting mark and struck out 8.6 batters per nine innings over his career, while and fanning 10 or more batters on six occasions. He also held runners well during his tenure with 15 career pick-offs. The right-hander is the only player in school history to help the Beacons to a Little East Conference playoff berth in all four of his seasons and is the only pitcher in school annals to beat national power Eastern Connecticut State twice. Conway became the first UMass Boston player in nearly 20 years to compete in the legendary Cape Cod Baseball League as a member of the Brewster Whitecaps in 2006 and saw action with the Lowell All-Americans of the New England Collegiate Baseball League in 2007.
