WHITE NAMED LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE MEN'S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK AGAIN

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston men's basketball player Jason White (Roxbury, MA/Charlestown HS) has been named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week for the week of January 11-17, it was announced today by the conference. The award marks the second straight week the White has earned the honor and the fourth time a UMass Boston player has earned top rookie distinction this season with sophomore guard Michael Mitchell Jr. (Boston, MA/Wayland HS) being named the top rookie for the weeks of November 23-29 and November 30 to December 6.
The freshman turned in another stellar week for the Beacons, averaging 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game in two games. White began the week with 24 points on 10-18 from the floor to go with six rebounds, three assists and two steals at Bridgewater State College on January 14 after missing the previous game due to illness. The guard capped the week with nine points, three rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals vs. Western Connecticut State University on January 16.
In just five games on the season, the former Charlestown High School product has been tabbed to start four times and already ranks fifth on the squad with 16 total steals. He is averaging 15.8 points and 3.2 steals to lead the team, while ranking second with 3.2 assists. The six-foot guard is grabbing 3.2 rebounds per game as well and has scored double digits in points on three occasions, including a season-high of 26 on 10-15 from the floor in his collegiate debut at Nichols College on January 5.
During his career at Charlestown High School, White was named to the Boston Globe All-Scholastic team as well as the Boston Herald Dream Team.
UMass Boston is 3-13 on the season, including a 1-4 record LEC play. The Beacons will be in action again on Tuesday, January 19 when they host University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in conference action at the Clark Athletic Center at 7:30 p.m.
