SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – With three third period goals, Skidmore College (2-3-0, 2-3-0 ECAC East) handed men's ice hockey (1-3-0, 0-3-0 ECAC East) a 4-0 conference loss Friday evening at the Saratoga Springs Ice Rink.
Leading Skidmore to the victory was Alex Essaris and Nick Dupuis, who each had two, assists in the game. Alex Radmin, Tyler Doremus, Zach Menard, and David Limoges each found the back of the net.
As a team the Beacons led their ECAC East opponent in shots as they totaled 30 on the night, as compared to Skidmore's 24. On the power-play, UMass was 0-for-2, while Skidmore recorded one power-play goal on three chances.
Skidmore got on the scoreboard early in the first period, with Radmin finding the back of the net off of an Essaris pass. Even with the early goal the Beacons did not back down. Unfortunately any shot they put on net was either smothered or pushed aside by Skidmore goalie Colin Bessey. Beacons goalie Kevin Bendel (Denville, N.J.) totaled 20 saves in the contest.
The Beacons would lead the period in shots with nine, while Skidmore tallied eight chances. After the lone goal in the first, neither team would find the back of the next in the second. UMass held a 9-7 advantage in chances to close out the second period.
In the third, Skidmore extended their lead to two goals at the 3:33 mark on a Doremus short-handed score. They would then make it 3-0 in favor of the home team midway through the final frame on Menard's power-play goal. Limoges closed out the win at 16:08 with his even strength goal.
