USCHO.com Preseason Poll

1. UMass Boston is nationally ranked to begin a season for the first time in school history. The Beacons are ranked #9 in the D3Hockey.com Top 15 Preseason Poll and #12 in the USCHO.com Preseason Poll. UMass Boston received their highest ever rankings in each poll last year, when they were picked as high as #9 in the D3Hockey.com Poll and #11 in the USCHO.com Poll. The Beacons also earned a first-place vote in the ECAC East Preseason Coaches Poll for the first time in school history, picking up three of the ten first-place votes.

2. This year's senior class of four players needs 13 wins to move into a tie for second-place in program-history for career wins. The group currently owns a 47-27-5 record and could become the second class in UMass Boston history to finish their careers with a winning record in all four seasons.

3. Senior captain Travis Daniel (North Brunswick, N.J.) is on pace to become the 13th skater in UMass Boston program-history to reach the 100-point mark. Daniel, a second-team ECAC East forward and 2013 All-Region honoree, ranks 18th all-time in UMB history with his 89 points through three seasons.

The first-line right-winger led the ECAC East in 2012-13 with his 28 assists and 40 points. If he were to reach the 100-point milestone, he would become only the second player to do so since 1994, joining former teammate Eric Tufman ('11) on the illustrious list.

3. Eighth-year head coach Peter Belisle took over a winless program in shambles in 2006 and has completely turned things around. Belisle, the ECAC East Coach of the Year and Division II/III New England Coach of the Year, stands just five wins shy of Joe Mallen's program-record 88 wins on the bench at UMass Boston. He not only has a chance to set the program-record for wins this year, but also could get above the .500 mark (83-90-12) for the first time in his career as a head coach.

5. UMass Boston will be taking on Salem State University Tuesday January 7 at Fenway Park as part of the two-week long outdoor hockey festival. The contest marks the first time in program-history the Beacons will have played at Fenway Park, the home of the 2013 World Champion Boston Red Sox.

The Beacons matchup vs. Salem State University will be one of three Division III games taking place at Fenway this year, with Trinity College (Conn.) playing Williams College in the second half of the doubleheader on the 7th and Babson College and Norwich University facing off on January 9th.
