CENTERVILLE, Mass.—For the first time in his career, freshman defenseman Tyler Bishop (Ramsey, N.J.) has been named the ECAC East Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday evening.
The Beacons freshman defenseman recorded two goals and an assist over the weekend to help #14/16 UMass Boston men's hockey to a 0-1-1 weekend.
Bishop recorded a career-high two goals Friday night at St. Michael's College to help UMass Boston earn a 4-4 tie and a pivotal point in the ECAC East standings. Saturday afternoon the New Jersey native tacked on an assist and finished +2 +/- in a 5-3 loss to ECAC East Regular Season Champion #7 Norwich University.
On the year, Bishop leads all UMass Boston freshman and defenseman with four goals, 12 assists and 16 points. His .73 points per game rank 24th at the Division II/III level amongst blue-liners and 44th amongst all freshman skaters.
Teammate Stephen Buco (North Providence, R.I.) joined Bishop in this week's ECAC East weekly awards, as Buco earned a spot on the ECAC East Honor Roll. Buco led the Beacons with two goals and three assists on the weekend and has now recorded multiple-point games in three straight.
Bishop, Buco and the third-seeded Beacons will host the sxith-seeded University of New England Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the ECAC East Quarterfinals.
