MEN'S ICE HOCKEY DOWNED BY CASTLETON STATE, 4-2

BOSTON, MA - Freshman forward Ben Schoeneberger (Vernon, CT) netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner, to lead the Castleton State College men's ice hockey team over host University of Massachusetts Boston, 4-2, tonight in an Eastern College Athletic Conference East contest at the Clark Athletic Center rink on the campus of UMass Boston. The Spartans improve to 5-6-3 and 3-4-1 in ECAC East play, while the Beacons fall to 6-5-1 and 3-4-1.
Schoenberger gave Castleton State its first lead of the night when senior forward Kirk Bolduc (Lewiston, ME) and freshman forward Josh Harris (Torrance, CA) combined to feed him for his second goal of the evening and fourth of the season with just 1:41 left in the second period to give the visitors a 3-2 edge. The Spartans added an insurance goal late in the third period when Harris and junior defenseman Jonathan Lafrance (N.D.I.P., Quebec) set up junior forward Stuart Stefan (Delhi, ONT) for his team-leading 11th goal of the year at the 17:02 mark for a 4-2 margin. UMass Boston was unable to score for the remainder of the game, despite pulling it's goalie in the final two minutes of play.
The Beacons cracked the scoring column just 4:42 into the contest when freshman forward Mike DeGrazia (Novi, MI) netted his first collegiate goal on an assist from sophomore forwards Andrew Burke (Southampton, PA) and Jimmy Ennis (Roslindale, MA). Schoeneberger matched the score for Castleton State less than three minutes later when Bolduc and freshman forward Dan Bell (Victoria, BC) found him at the 7:24 mark for a power play marker.
UMass Boston reclaimed the lead when sophomore forwards Bill Baker (Vancouver, BC) and Kyle Tejchma (Fruitport, MI) hooked up with senior forward Anthony Cosmano (Wheaton, IL) for his first tally of the season at 7:57 of the second period. The Spartans responded just 64 seconds later, thanks to sophomore forward Cody Ayers' (Colorado Springs, CO) second goal of the year on a helper from Lafrance and freshman forward Brett Zeggil (Pricevill, ONT) at 9:01 of the period to make it 2-2.
Freshman goaltender Arthur Hollinger (Homer Glen, IL) stopped 28 shots to earn the victory for Castleton State, while senior goalie Ryan Donovan (Rexford, NY) made 27 saves in 58:07 of action for the Beacons.
UMass Boston will be in action again tomorrow when it hosts ECAC East foe Skidmore College at the Clark Athletic Center at 4:00 p.m., while the Spartans travel to Babson Park, MA to take on Babson College tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
