Box Score

South Burlington, VT -- Senior forward Chris Healey (Salem, NH) scored a pair of goals including the game-winner with 3:41 left to play to lift the Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey team over the University of Massachusetts Boston squad Friday evening at Cairns Arena in South Burlington, VT. The win marks Saint Michael's longest winning streak since the 1999-00 season, when the Purple Knights won five games in a row. The Beacons fall to 5-6-2 on the season, including 2-5-1 in ECAC East play, while Saint Michael's improves to 5-6-1 and 3-5-0 on the year.

Freshman forward Kyle Tejchma (Fruitport, MI) opened up the game's scoring with his third goal of the season at the 13:13 mark in the first period when he was assisted by freshman forward Jim Ennis (Roslindale, MA) and freshman defender Nick Novak (Greenbay, WI) to put UMass Boston on top 1-0 but Healey evened the score for the Purple Knights 4:22 into the second period with his first goal of the game, ninth of the season, to lock the score at 1-1.

The tied score would last only 30 seconds as junior forward Patrick McGuirk (Hingham, MA) gave Saint Michaels its first lead of the night when he connected on his fourth goal of the season at the 4:52 mark into the second period to give the home team a 2-1 advantage.

With 3:07 to play in the second period, junior forward Anthony Cosmano (Wheaton, IL) converted a pass from senior forward Jacob Cline (Atlanta, GA) for his third goal of the season to even the score again at 2-2.

The Purple Knights regained the momentum and the lead only eight seconds later when junior forward Ryan Nest (Gansevoort, NY) netted his second goal on the season to put Saint Michaels back on top with a 3-2 margin heading into the final period.

Midway through the third period, UMass Boston was able to take advantage of a tripping penalty on the Purple Knights and convert a power-play goal to pull the score even, 3-3. Sophomore defenseman Brett Calhoun (Tulsa, OK) notched his fifth goal of the season as he converted passes from freshman forward Bryan Albert (Redlands, CA) and sophomore forward Vinnie Jacona (East Stroudburg, PA).

The Beacons would then commit a costly holding penalty of their own and after a Saint Michael's timeout with 3:51 to play, Healey would net his 10th goal of the season and second of the game to secure the victory for the Purple Knights.

For Saint Michael's College, senior goaltender Ryan Bilton (Penticton, British Columbia) made 33 saves on the night to earn his fifth victory of the season while junior goalie Ryan Donovan (Rexford, NY) turned away 29 shots for UMass Boston.

The Beacons will be back in action tomorrow, January 17, 2009 in Northfield, VT when they face Norwich University at 4:00 PM. The Purple Knights hit the ice tomorrow as well when they host Babson College at 3:00 PM.
