Sophomore defenseman Nick Jillson (North Smithfield, RI) took a shot that went wide of the net on the Vikings' power play but ricocheted right back into the slot where Doyen sent home the game-deciding tally for his second score of the season.
Salem State opened the scoring when sophomore forward Justin Fox (Whitby, ONT) and junior blueliner Brett Noll (Sandwich, MA) combined to find sophomore defenseman Kevin Huinink (Whitby, ONT) just 12 seconds into the power play at 11:23 of the opening period for a 1-0 edge. The Beacons took their only lead of the evening at the 9:11 mark of the middle period when sophomore forward Eric Tufman (Abington, PA) netted his sixth goal of the year on an assist from sophomore blueliner Brett Calhoun (Tulsa, OK) and Kranzky on the power play for a 2-1 edge, but the Vikings answered just over two minutes later when sophomore forward Alex Molnar (Nitra, Slovakia) and freshman forward Justin Roy (North Bay, ONT) fed freshman forward Matt Johnson (Lynn, MA) at 11:23 to knot the score at 2-2.
Salem State kept the pressure on when it took a 3-2 lead on another power play goal off the stick of Huinink for his second tally of the night and fourth of the campaign on a helper from senior goaltender Ryan Hatch (Medway, MA) and junior forward Chris MacInnis (Waltham, MA) with 3:29 to go in the second period.
