Box Score

BOSTON, MA - Freshman forward Chris Wyman (Bartlett, IL) tallied four points, including his first career hat trick to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston men's ice hockey team over visiting Framingham State College, 9-1, tonight at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMass Boston. The Beacons improve to 1-1-1 on the season in their home opener for their best start since 1998-99 when they began the campaign, 2-1-0, while the Rams fall to 0-5-1.

Freshman defenseman Matthew Marasco (Sterling Heights, MI) took a feed from junior forward John Mortimer (Coraopolis, PA) and freshman forward Jon Vaillancourt (La Valle, WI) and netted his first collegiate goal just 4:45 into the game to give Framingham State a 1-0 edge, but that would be its only offense of the night as UMass Boston reeled off nine straight goals. It marked the first time since January 6, 1996 when UMB trailed Skidmore College, 2-0, before scoring nine straight times to take a 9-2 victory in Boston.

Wyman knotted the score at 1-1 for the Beacons just 18 seconds later and wasted no time with goal number two coming just nine seconds after that on a feed from sophomore forward David Lun (Grand Rapids, MI) for a 2-1 UMB edge at the 5:12 mark of the opening period. Wyman's third goal of the night gave UMass Boston a 7-1 advantage when freshman forward Bryan Albert (Redlands, CA) found him at 11:16 of the third period.

Albert netted a goal of his own, earlier in the contest, on a combined helper from Wyman and Lun with 1:24 remaining in the opening period for a 3-1 Beacons' lead. Freshman forward Anthony Fitti (Havertown, PA) was set up by classmate Andrew Burke (Southampton, PA) at 14:25 of the second stanza for his first collegiate goal and junior forward Kris Kranzky (Glendora, CA) followed just 14 seconds later with his first goal of the season coming on an assist from sophomore forward Eric Tufman (Abington, PA) at 14:39 of the middle period for a 5-1 UMass Boston lead. Kranzky netted his second goal of the year, to begin the third period, scoring with a shot that found the back of the net on a helper from sophomore forward Matt Atsoff (Macomb, MI) at 4:41 of the third period to increase the lead to 6-1 for UMB.

Sophomore Vinnie Jacona (East Stroudsburg, PA) notched his first goal of the season as well, when freshman forward Dan Styrna (Vancouver, BC) hooked up with him at the 12:25 mark of the third period and Atsoff capped the scoring on the power play for the Beacons with his third goal of the campaign coming on an assist from Tufman and Kranzky at 16:24 of the third session.

UMass Boston junior goaltender Ryan Donovan (Rexford, NY) stopped 13 shots in two periods of play, before yielding to senior Chris Testa (Massapequa, NY), who turned away all six shots he saw in the third period. Junior goalie Ryan Shelley (Gray, ME) made 41 saves on the night for the Rams as UMB owned a 50-20 shot advantage.

The Beacons will be in action again when they travel to Manchester, NH on Saturday, November 29 to take on Southern New Hampshire University in the first round of the P.A.L. Stovepipe Tournament at 4:00 p.m., while Framingham State hosts Salem State College on November 29 at 7:30 p.m.
