CENTERVILLE, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston men's ice hockey player Rob Florentino (West Roxbury, MA) has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference East Player of the Week for the week of November 22-28, it was announced today by the conference.

Over three games, Florentino shined netting four goals while dishing out three assists for seven points to help UMass Boston post a perfect 3-0 record, including two victories over the weekend to capture the P.A.L./Stovepipe Tournament Championship in Hooksett, NH. Florentino scored in all three games last week including two goals in the Beacons 8-3 victory over Salve Regina on Saturday in the opening round of the tournament. The sophomore was named the P.A.L./Stovepipe tournament MVP for his effort over the two weekend matches.

Florentino has enjoyed a great start to the 2010-11 campaign, netting a team-high four goals to go along with four assists to rank second on the team with eight total points. The forward has been the Beacons go-to man on the power play, having scored a team-leading three goals with the extra man advantage.

UMass Boston is currently 4-1-0 on the season, matching last season's hot start which had previously not been accomplished since the 1991-92 campaign. UMB also received attention in the national Division III poll this week, receiving three votes in the United State College Hockey Online (USCHO) poll. The Beacons rank first in the ECAC East and third in the nation among Division III institutions with 5.40 goals per game and have won four games in a row for only the second time since the 1999-2000 season. The team will be in action again on Friday, December 3 when they host Trinity College (CT) in a 7:00 p.m. match-up.
