DANIEL NAMED ECAC EAST MEN'S ICE HOCKEY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

CENTERVILLE, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston men's ice hockey player Travis Daniel (North Brunswick, NJ) has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference East Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week for the week of December 6-12, it was announced today by the conference.

In UMass Boston's only game of the week, Daniel netted two goals, including the heroic game-winner with 18.7 seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Beacons to a 4-3 ECAC East road victory over Babson College on Wednesday night.

A graduate of North Brunswick High School, Daniel has been a huge contributor early for UMass Boston, collecting four goals and eight assists to rank second on the team with 12 total points. His four markers tie him for the team lead while his eight assists rank tied for second among the Beacons.

UMass Boston is currently 6-2-0 on the season, 3-2-0 in the ECAC East, to match the best start in school history since the 1988-89 season and the best in-conference record through the first semester since the 1990-91 campaign. The Beacons also received attention in the national Division III poll this week, receiving five votes in the United State College Hockey Online (USCHO) poll. This was the second time this season the squad has been recognized in the poll, also receiving three votes in the November 29 poll. The Beacons rank first in the ECAC East and fourth in the nation among Division III institutions with 4.62 goals per game and won six of their last seven games heading into the winter break. The team will be in action again on Wednesday, December 29 when they host Assumption College in the opening round of the 46th Annual Cod Fish Bowl at 5:00 p.m.
