ALBERT NAMED ECAC EAST MEN'S ICE HOCKEY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Dec. 16, 2008
CENTERVILLE, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston men's ice hockey player Bryan Albert (Redlands, CA) has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference East Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week for the week of December 8-14, it was announced today by the conference. The honor marks the second time this season that a player from UMass Boston has been named the league's top rookie after freshman Chris Wyman (Bartlett, IL) was named for the week of November 24-30.
Albert made the most of the Beacons' only game of the week, netting his third goal of the season to tie the contest at Babson College, before UMB went on to a 4-2 victory on December 10. It was the freshman's first game back after missing three contests following an injury on November 29.
The forward ranks fifth for UMass Boston with three goals on the season and is second among the team's rookies with five points, including a pair of assists. A product of the Valley Junior Warriors of the Eastern Junior Hockey League, Albert's one power play goal puts him third among the Beacons' leaders. He ranks sixth in total points among ECAC East freshman and 16th among all league players in total goals, while placing 19th in power play tallies. A graduate of Redlands High School, he has notched at least one point in four of the five games he has played in, including a season-high of two points with a goal and an assist in UMass Boston's 9-1 win over Framingham State College on November 25.
The Beacons are currently 5-2-1 on the season for their best start since 1987-88 when they owned a 6-2-0 mark after eight contests. UMass Boston will be in action again when it hosts Westfield State College on Monday, December 29 at 5:00 p.m. at the Clark Athletic Center in the second game of the first round of the 44th Annual Codfish Bowl, the second oldest college hockey invitational in the country.
