Lacrosse Picked Fourth on Conference Preseason Poll

PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Looking to build-off of one of their most successful seasons under head coach Tyler Low, the Beacons have been picked fourth in the 2017 Little East Conference Preseason Poll, which was released this afternoon.

The Beacons collected 35 points overall, and earned their highest preseason ranking since the 2007 season.  Picked to repeat as the conference champion was Keene State College, who earned al seven first place votes and 56 points.  Eastern Connecticut State University was picked to finish second after earning 43 points.  Ranked third was Plymouth State University with 40 points.  The University of Southern Maine rounded out the top-5 with 28 points.  Western Connecticut State University and UMass Dartmouth were tied for sixth with 26 points each, and Salem State University was picked to finish last with 13 points.

This season the Beacons welcome back three of their four All-Conference honorees from a season ago.  Senior attackman Calvin Lee (Hopkinton, Mass.) ended his first season as a Beacons with 54 goals, 27 assists, and a conference leading 81 points.  Also returning to the Beacons line-up in 2017 is senior midfielder Anthony Tortora (Medford, Mass.) and junior defenseman Jack Dillon (Barrington, R.I.).  Tortora collected 64 groundballs last season, and finished with 17 caused turnovers.  Dillon led the Beacon backline with his 79 groundballs, and 40 caused turnovers.

The Beacons will begin their new season on March 1 when they host New England College at 3:30 p.m.
