Men’s Soccer Picked to Finish 7th in LEC Preseason Poll

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Little East Conference has released the 2013 men's soccer preseason coaches' poll and as the Beacons finishing seventh this fall under first year head coach Jake Beverlin.  UMB earned a combined 23 points and one first place vote.

Eastern Connecticut State University was picked to repeat as the conference champions having earned four first place votes and 60 total points.  UMass Dartmouth was second with 52 points and two first place votes.  Keene State College rounded out the top three having earned 51 points and one first place vote.

Tied for fourth was Plymouth State University and Rhode Island College with 32 points each.  The University of Southern Maine came in at sixth with 24 points and Western Connecticut State University closed out this year's poll with 13 points.

This fall, the newly appointed leader of the Beacons will look to a roster of almost all new faces.  The Beacons return their lone All-Conference selection from a year ago in junior Douglas Silveira (Revere, Mass.), who had a breakout sophomore campaign for UMB.

The 22-man roster will be put to the test early in 2013 as they open the season with a two-day tournament at Lasell College.  The Beacons will face their first conference opponent in the University of Southern Maine, on September 21 on their home field.  They will then close out the month with a trip to UMass Dartmouth for their first road conference match, which should be their biggest test of the first half of the season.

UMB will make their 2013 home debut on Thursday, September 5 when they host Emmanuel College at 3:30 p.m. on the Clark Athletic Field.
