SOMERVILLE, Mass. – With a goal from freshman Edmilson Barros (Boston, Mass.) men's soccer (2-1) notched their second straight non-conference victory as they defeated Suffolk University (0-2) by the final score of 1-0 Tuesday evening at Dilboy Stadium.
The goal, which marked the first of the young career of Barros came on a shot from just over 30 yards out in the 29th minute of the first half. Barros' game-winner marks the Beacons second straight win in the last three days, as UMB notched their first victory of the year on Sunday with a 3-1 decision over Newbury College.
Tuesday's win marks the first for the Beacons over the Rams on the road since the 2011 season when they notched a 6-2 victory in the season opener.
Picking-up his first collegiate assist in the victory was Dylan Hawkins (North Easton, Mass.) when he knocked the ball over to Barros, who then drove a laser of a shot on goal.
Between the goal posts for UMB Alfonso Rosales (Revere, Mass.) was solid all night as he recorded his first career shutout. On the night he made a combined five saves including a diving stop with 20 minutes remaining in the second half. He would continue his heroics in the final minute of play when he pushed away a free kick which would have hit his mark had Rosales not made the save.
The Beacons return to action on Thursday when they host Emmanuel College at 3:30 p.m. at Clark Athletic Field in the 2013 home debut for UMB.
