NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – A pair of late second half goals secured what would become a 3-0 Little East Conference win for the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth as they defeated men's soccer Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field, handing the Beacons their first conference loss of 2013.
UMass Boston dropped to 7-3, 1-1 in the Little East Conference and saw their four game win streak snapped by the Corsairs, who improved to 5-2, 1-1 in the conference with Saturday's victory.
With the loss, the Beacons close out a solid September under first year head coach having dropped only two matches all month to finish with a record of 7-2.
On the day the Beacons offense was held to just eight shots, five of which were on goal, while the host Corsairs tallied 17 chances, with six ending up on target. Alfonso Rosales (Revere, Mass.) was handed the loss after making three stops in the contest, two of which were in the first half.
For UMass Dartmouth, Andrew Deane earned the victory and the shutout behind his four saves. Three different players found the back of the net for UMD with Adam Philbin breaking the scoreless draw in the 29th minute of the first half on an unassisted play.
Late in the second the Corsairs saw Alex Machado and Victor Ferreira each score once in a five minute span to help secure the victory. Kyle Duarte picked-up an assist on the goal by Machado.
The Beacons offense saw Edmilson Barros (Boston, Mass.) record six of the Beacons eight shots, with three of his chances ending up in the hands of Deane. UMass Dartmouth recorded every corner kick in the match (11).
Men's Soccer returns to action on Tuesday when they host Bridgewater State University at 3:30 p.m.
