BABSON PARK, MA - The Babson College men's soccer team picked up its fourth shutout win of the season on Saturday, as the Beavers blanked visiting UMass Boston, 2-0, in a non-conference contest at Hartwell-Rogers Field. With their second win in a row, the Beavers improved to 4-1-0 on the season, while the Beacons fell to 1-1-0 with their first loss.
After a scoreless first half, Babson grabbed a 1-0 lead early in the second. Following a UMass Boston foul on the left side of Babson's offensive end, sophomore Josh Danesh (Brookline, MA) sent the ensuing free kick into the middle of the box. There, freshman Mike Fisher (Longmeadow, MA) headed a perfect shot into the upper right corner for his second goal of the season at 50:29.
The Beavers picked up a key insurance goal at the 62-minute mark, as junior Jimmy Stento (Needham, MA) sent a nice through-ball to junior Ryan Obolewicz (Bow, N.H.) at the top of the box. A Beacon defender raced back and kicked the ball away from the Babson midfielder, but the attempted clear went just inside the right post and in for an own goal at 62:03.
That would be all Babson would need, as the Beaver defense limited UMass Boston to just two shots on net coming from freshman forward Stefan Galouzis (Watertown, MA) and sophomore forward Luis Saquich (Marlborough, MA). Junior keeper Peter Crowley (Lexington, MA) finished with two saves in earning his third shutout of the season, while Beacons' sophomore goalie Brycen Dowd (Mansfield, Mass.) stopped a season-high seven shots in defeat.
The Beacons are back in action on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 when they travel to Quincy, MA to face Eastern Nazarene College at 3:30 PM while the Beavers host Coast Guard next Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 1:00 PM.
