BOSTON, MA - Senior midfielder Romeo Zeqo (Volos, Greece/Medford H.S.) matched a career-high with five points on a pair of goals and an assist to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over visiting Suffolk University today at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMass Boston. The Beacons win their first match of the season and improve to 1-2-0, while the Rams fall to 1-1-0.
Zeqo helped put UMass Boston on the board when he crossed to the six-yard line to find junior forward Mourad Chibane (Malden, MA) for his first goal of the season at 12:26 of the first half. Zeqo then netted his first goal of the afternoon when senior defender Henry Marin (Pereira, Colombia/Haverill H.S.) sent a chip from the midfield to the 18-yard line and Zeqo trapped it and sent a shot that found the lower right back of the net at the 31:27 mark for a 2-0 lead that held up until the intermission. Zeqo's second tally came courtesy of another Marin assist when he crossed from the right corner of the 18-yard mark into the six-yard marker, where Zeqo sent a header into the left corner of the net at 68:06 of the second half to cap the match's scoring and make it 4-0 in favor of the Beacons.
Junior defender Collins Dibia (Nigeria/Medford H.S.) netted UMass Boston's other goal when he sent a shot from 28 yards out that went through the keeper's hands and into the upper left corner of the net at 55:59 of the second half.
Sophomore keeper Domenick Persuitte (West Barnstable, MA) stopped seven shots to earn his first collegiate shutout and victory for the Beacons, while freshman Nick Woodhull (Honolulu, HI) made five saves for Suffolk.
UMass Boston will be in action again on Thursday, September 11 when it travels to Quincy, MA to take on Eastern Nazarene College at 4:00 p.m., while the Rams travel to New Haven, CT on September 13 to play Albertus Magnus College at 1:00 p.m.
