Quincy, MA - The Beacons of UMass Boston capitalized on three critical opportunities today to walk away with a 4-1 win. After a deflected shot that got past the Crusaders keeper in the 20th minute to make the score 1-0, Beacon Adnan Kawuma (Malden, MA) made it 2-0 when he beat a defender on the right side of the penalty area and then went in on Crusader keeper Andrew Trice (Quincy, Mass.) for a clean finish to near post to register his first career goal. The Beacons registered their third goal in the 56th minute as the initial cross on a corner kick went to the far post, only to be headed back to the other post where Beacons Justin Driesse (Butler, NJ) was waiting to head it in for his first collegiate score. The fourth and final goal for the Beacons occurred in the 83rd minute when a misplayed ball in the Crusaders defense fell directly to Kawuna's feet as he ran into the penalty area. Kawuma would have a controlling touch before finishing past Crusader GK to the right side of goal.
The Crusaders settled down in the second half and gained a good portion of possession while attacking. They closed down the 3-0 Beacon lead in the 63rd minute when a shot by Corey Knudsen (W. Wareham, Mass.) deflected off a Beacon defender to bring the score to 3-1. But the game returned to the 3 goal margin of victory on the Beacons last goal, putting the game out of reach.
The Crusaders were out shot 28-6 and the Beacons held an advantage in corner kicks at 6-2.
