Box Score

BOSTON, MA - Senior defender Andrew Eggleston (Belchertown, MA) scored his first goal of the season for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team who also benefitted from an own goal game-winner to defeat the University of Massachusetts Boston, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center field on the campus of UMass Boston. The Corsairs improve to 5-1 overall, 1-1 in the Little East Conference while the loss drops the Beacons to 1-6, 0-2 on the year.

The Corsairs took advantage of a UMass Boston own goal at the 24:07 mark to take a 2-0 first half lead. After a service ball from the UMass Dartmouth midfield landed deep within the Beacon 18-yard box, a UMass Boston defender attempted to clear the pass over the end-line but drove the ball into the back of his own net.

UMass Boston freshman forward Errol Turgutalp (Brockton, MA) cut the deficit in half, making it a 2-1 game with his first collegiate goal late in the second half. Turgutalp was able to control a failed clear by the Corsairs and elude sophomore goalkeeper Kellen Rauch (Ashland, MA) with 17:46 remaining in the match.

Sophomore midfielder Luiz DaCunha (Revere, MA) had a great look to tie the game with a one-time shot from 25 yards out but Rauch was able to make the save and preserve the 2-1 victory for the visitors.

Eggleston's goal got the afternoon's scoring underway when he put home freshman midfielder Kyle Duarte's (New Bedford, MA) cross with a header just 10:57 into the match.

Rauch finished the game with nine saves while UMass Boston sophomore goalkeeper Brycen Dowd (Mansfield, MA) kept the game close for the Beacons, making seven saves on the afternoon.

UMass Boston will be back in action on Wednesday, September 29 when they host Becker College at 3:30 p.m. while the Corsairs travel to New London, CT on Tuesday, September 28 to face Connecticut College at 4:30 p.m.
