LEICESTER, MA - Junior goalkeeper Julian Crowder (Salem, MA) recorded his first career shutout and freshman midfielder Karim Boubess (Beirut, Lebanon) netted his first collegiate goal to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston men's soccer team over host Becker College, 4-0, today in Leicester, MA. The Beacons improve to 3-4-1 on the season, while the Hawks fall to 2-8-0.

Sophomore midfielder Alvin Qiriazi (Roslindale, MA) ripped a shot that was blocked, but Boubess collected the rebound, turned and lifted the ball over the head of the Becker goalkeeper to give UMass Boston a 1-0 edge just 41 seconds into the match.

The Hawks hurt themselves twice in the first half on own goals. The first own goal was scored when a shot ricocheted off a Becker defender, making the score 2-0 at 7:18 of the first half. The second own goal was tallied when a Hawks' defender tried to clear a corner kick, but headed the ball into his own net at the 16:45 mark of the opening stanza.

The Beacons made the score 4-0 at 35:13 when Qiriazi spun a shot past the dive of the Becker keeper for his fourth goal of the season.

Crowder stopped the only shot that he faced on the afternoon in his first collegiate start, while senior goalie Aaron Fill (Delta, BC) made nine saves for the Hawks, who were outshot, 15-7, by UMass Boston.

The Beacons will be in action again on Saturday, October 3 when they host Little East Conference foe Eastern Connecticut State University at 1:00 p.m. at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMass Boston, while Becker travels to Annandale, NY on October 3 to take on Bard College at 2:00 p.m.
